Google Stadia - The new era for Games as a Service

The technology giant "Google" is entering the electronic games arena with its new service "Google Stadia", which will provide the ability to enjoy the latest games that require devices that contain the latest components, and all you need is a good internet speed, and a few other things we will mention in detail.

First, let us know exactly what service Google provides?

When you subscribe to the Google stadia service, you can access the service through any device connected to the Internet, and choose your favorite game. Whatever capabilities of the device that you connect to for Google stadia service, you can play the latest games. The game will be installed on Google’s servers, and what you will receive will be a live broadcast for the circuit game on the server.

You can use the "Google Stadia" service through the Google Chrome browser. A special control device for the service has been introduced as soon as it is connected so that it sends traffic signals via the Internet through the server on which the traffic is managed. Thus, all you use on your device is the Internet connection and the screen on which you follow. Broadcast, while processing all the data on the "Google Stadia" server.

A simple idea that helps many gamers who don't want to invest in an expensive gaming rig or who want the freedom of movement while playing, But Google was not the first company to try to present this idea. There are several services before that had been introduced with the same content, the most famous of which is ON Live? It even provided tools similar to those tools that Google promises to use, but unfortunately, the "On Life" service did not succeed and closed its doors. In 2015, the matter is since Internet speeds at the time did not bear such a service, as there is always a delay between your entering commands and the arrival of those commands to the server and reflecting it on the image again.

The question here is, will Google succeed in what Online has failed?

The answer to this question is not easy, as "Online", although it had suffered from some problems, as a company was able to make profits, and the crisis that led to its failure is a crisis related to business and its differences with "HP" .

Google Stadia payment system

$15 per month was the amount subscribers were paying for the "On Life" service, a figure they came up with after seeing the cost of a World Of Warcraft subscription.

On Life tried different payment models, but its most successful plan was with Playback for $10 a month and getting an office membership full of varied and renewed games.

On Life kept 30% of the $10, and the remainder was distributed to game makers divided according to the time players spend on each game. This method has succeeded greatly, even if the game makers made more money from Playback than they got from games.

But no one can predict what Google will choose in terms of investing money and the method of payment, but it will certainly be a fixed monthly service because it will be profitable for Google and game makers, as they can only create games and if the game is great, people will play it constantly and then get money.
Continuously every month.

As for what Stadia has announced about its prices, it will differ slightly by country, but will always be close to $10.

There is a free version that will be available from "Google Studio", but it will be limited in quality to 1080P, and the sound is limited to "stereo" only, but the monthly subscription version will allow you to broadcast in 4k and 5.1Surround sound, and they have already announced the Founders Edition (version Founders), which will be at $130, and includes the new control arm for "Google Stadia" that can be connected to any device that uses the service through it, in addition to a year of service subscription.

You can get a joystick alone for $69, but you can play the games available on Stadia without the need for a dedicated controller. You can use the keyboard and mouse if that is your favorite way of playing, or even your favorite controller if you need to mess around with the settings a bit.

Does the service provide an adequate price?

It seems that the price is very appropriate at first glance, but you start to understand the real cost of " Google Stadia " when you know that your subscription to the service does not allow you to play games for free, so with the subscription value you also need to buy any game you want to enjoy, and the prices of these games range Between $60 to $100! For everyone who compares the service prices with the Netflix service, you can imagine that you pay the same $10 every month in addition to the price of each series or movie you want to watch.

Of course, "Stadia" promises users of the "Pro" monthly subscription version discounts on the prices of games, and some free games with a system similar to the services of "PlayStation Plus" and "Xbox Gold".

But let's be realistic, the player who subscribes to such a service that provides him with the latest games wants to do exactly that, to play the latest game available in the market after he no longer cares about the capabilities of his device.

The future of gaming with stadia

On the other hand, the kings of the games market such as Xbox and PlayStation, owned by Microsoft and Sony respectively, provide a traditional gaming experience that players are accustomed to, and they do not need Internet speeds that are not available in many regions of the world. , In addition to the permanent presence of exclusive content from the games that Sony maintains at least fiercely, although Microsoft has loosened its grip on its exclusive content and is making it available on computers that run on the Windows system, and thus it will be available on Google Stadia.

Microsoft also allowed joint play on different platforms. If you are a fan of "Fortnite" and play on "Xbox", you can join in the same game with your friends who use the computer or even play on their mobile phone, but "Sony" refused That happens on the PlayStation completely, and currently the only exception on the PlayStation platform that enables you to play jointly on other platforms is the Rocket League game.

But the consensus of all game makers is that the position of "Sony" will change sooner or later, to become the struggle of platforms to attract players, especially with the entry of "Stadia" the struggle for preference for a way of playing, the question was always: Do you like to play in your living room in front of the big TV using a remote control Or would you rather sit in front of the computer screen and use the mouse and keyboard?

And when "Nintendo", always tweeting out of the flock, came to present the "Nintendo Switch", which carries an integrated gaming experience outside the home, and added a new option for players, and now Stadia comes to give you all those options at the same time, so your game starts on the computer and continues on your phone all day, and you might like To finish it on your TV screen, you are only limited by the available internet speed, only the exclusivity struggle will remain, you will never be able to enjoy "God of War" on a platform other than "PlayStation" or the new "Spider-Man" game, or maybe you were waiting for the second part From "The last of us", Sony keeps its exclusives and Nintendo with its distinctive games firmly present in the competition in the coming period.

But with Microsoft's policies and a lack of exclusivity, will Google Stadia be one of the reasons for the end of the Xbox?

In the end, "Google Stadia" is a distinguished service, and it is a victory for the players, but will it be suitable for everyone or not with the price that does not include everything and the constant need for high and stable internet speed? We'll wait to see it.
